3 record temperatures Dayton set in the first 7 weeks of the year

Not two months into the year, the Dayton region has already broken three daily temperature records, pending a final determination by the National Climatic Data Center.

The records -- two high temperatures, and a highest low temperature -- were recorded at Dayton International Airport, according to the National Weather Service.

On Saturday, the high maximum temperature at the airport reached 65 degrees at 2:25 p.m. to break the previous record, and by sunset it topped out at 66 degrees. That was two degrees higher than the Feb. 18 record of 64 set in 1948.

The temperature on Feb. 8 fell only to 49 degrees, breaking by a degree the highest minimum temperature for the day set in 1925.

On Jan. 11, the maximum temperature reached 59 degrees at 9:58 p.m., tying a 2013 record.

January also had a share of other unseasonably warm days. The average high of 41 degrees during the first month of 2017 was 6.3 degrees above normal.

Just before the year began, another record high of 66 was set on Dec. 26, smashing the previous record set in 2015 by 6 degrees. And the 7.2 inches of snow in Dayton this winter matches the lowest total at this point on the calendar in 15 years.
