May Election: Big money spent in Miami/Darke County state House race

Nearly a quarter of a million dollars has been spent on the Republican primary in Ohio’s 80th state House district making it one of the most expensive statehouse primary in the region.

The district covers Miami and southern Darke counties.

The four candidates have spent $220,061 heading toward the May 8 primary.

George H. Lovett of Tipp City, loaned $99,400 to his campaign and collected $5,025 in contributions. He spent the most of any candidate, $103,807.

Jena Powell of Arcanum took in the largest amount of contributions in the crowded Republican primary for the seat now held by State Rep. Steve Huffman, R-Tipp City, who is running for Ohio Senate.

Powell collected $70,193 and loaned herself $15,000. She spent $54,218.

Commissioner John W. “Bud” O’Brien received $25,410 and spent $37,638.

J.D. Winteregg of Troy received $17,797 and loaned himself $5,500. Winteregg spent $$24,398.

Write-in Democrat Scott Zimmerman of Troy did not file.
