Child taken to hospital, pronounced dead after traffic crash in Highland County

A fatal traffic crash occurred Sunday afternoon on South East Street, north of Muntz Street, according to a release.

The preliminary investigation reveals a 2001 Mitsubishi Eclipse, driven by Allen Landess, 40, of Hillsboro, was traveling north on South East Street when he struck a child that entered the street in a toy car. The child was transported to Highland District Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
