2. New school buses
Five new Talawanda school buses will be on the roads this year, bringing the fleet to eight new buses over two years.
The new buses bring added fuel efficiency and safety features, district Treasurer Mike Davis said.
“We will get 33 new buses by 2022. The entire fleet will be replaced,” Davis said. “We will have eight new buses on the road in two years.”
3. Students start first full year in new elementary
The new Kramer Elementary building has been in use for one semester, formally opening this past January, but students will return today for their first full school year in the building.
Over the summer break, the building’s parking lot was completed.
4. Forms go online
The Talawanda school approved in June a contract with Final Forms to make all student information forms available electronically.
For parents whose children are continuing in the Talawanda district, that will mean only reviewing information already provided and making corrections and updates. Parents of students new to the district will need to put in all the required information, however.
5. More possible building projects
A proposed construction project to replace all but the most recent part of Marshall Elementary was officially placed on the state’s radar in June, when the Talawanda Board of Education approved a resolution to participate in the Classroom Facilities Program.
The district’s cost for the work would be $7.5 million, with the state contributing $3.4 million.
Talawanda is one of nine districts in Ohio with potential projects before the Ohio Facilities Construction Commission. The school board will be studying the potential project more this school year.
