‘Team Tyre’ starts high school: Meet the Springboro quintuplets who reached a milestone today

A set of Springboro quintuplets reached a milestone today: Their first day of high school together.

Fourteen-year-olds Austin, Emily, Alyssa, Lindsey and Hyrum Tyre started school at Springboro High School, where they all run on the cross country team. Parents Sara and Brooks have a total of seven children. Their youngest, Bryce, starts seventh grade this year, and Hannah, their oldest, is a sophomore.

Sara said watching the “quins” enter high school is surreal and a bit scary — it means she and her husband are quickly approaching other milestones, like teaching the kids to drive and eventually sending them off to college.

“It’s good to see your kids grow and experience life, but it’s sad to see them move closer to leaving you,” she said.

All seven of the children are running cross country this year. Running is a bit of a family tradition. The parents enjoy running, and the family has always gone on runs together. Sara said the fact that the kids all participate in the same sport makes them easier to transport, but they were allowed to pick for themselves.

“(Hannah), she wasn’t really planning on doing cross country, but the others kind of persuaded her to, and that was their doing,” Sara said. “It’s kind of fun to see them do something together.”

Raising seven children comes with its challenges.

“It’s just one day at a time,” Sara said. “You hope that you do better than you did yesterday, and then you hope for even better the next day.”

Sara said her advice for other large families is to go their own way instead of worrying about what other people think and to work hard to bond and build relationships.

“We often call ourselves Team Tyre because … we’re all working together to achieve something and we’re all here kind helping one another in life,” she said.
