‘The second hit broke my jaw’: Victims describe Xenia bar fight as police search for suspects

Heated words between strangers outside a bar in Xenia resulted in serious injuries for two men and police asking for help in locating all of those who were involved.

Corey Allen Dehaven said he and his friend were attacked by a group of unknown males after they had drinks at the Round Table Bar, 306 Home Ave.

The incident happened in the parking lot shortly after midnight on June 14, according to the Xenia police report. Detective Matt Miller released video of the fight in hopes of generating leads.

Dehaven, 27, said “there were some words exchanged” between him and another male and when he and his friend tried to leave, the male and several others surrounded his truck.

“I was the first to get hit and the second hit broke my jaw,” said Dehaven, adding that there’s a chance he’ll lose a few of his teeth. “My buddy got knocked out. They were kicking and punching him in the face.”

Dehaven’s friend, a 26-year-old Xenia resident, said he suffered broken bones in his cheek, eyesocket and tailbone. He said his teeth were dislodged from the blows. Doctors have advised him that he will eventually lose all of his teeth and need a bone transplant.

“I tried to grab my friend and pull him out of the circle, but they hit me from behind and knocked me out,” he said. “I have no idea who they were. There was a bunch of guys in that circle. It definitely wasn’t a fair fight.”

The video that police released on Facebook was captured by a witness. The video shows people fighting in the parking lot near Valero gas station, which is adjacent to the Round Table Bar.

Xenia Capt. Alonzo Wilson said police want to get the full story of what happened and they are trying to get more clarity from witnesses.

“We have one side of the story,” Wilson said. “We’d like to get both sides of the story. A neutral party is even better. We hope someone sees that video and it sparks a memory.”

The video can be viewed on Xenia Police Division's Facebook page.
