Three puppies from the Butler County Animal Friends Humane Society, Astro, Buford and Smudge will be players in Animal Planet’s Puppy Bowl XV.

These 3 area dogs will be part of this year’s nationally televised Puppy Bowl

The Butler County Animal Friends Humane Society has two starters and a third dog participating in the Animal Planet Puppy Bowl XV.

Tara Bowser, executive director of the shelter, said Astro and Smudge are part of the starting lineup on Team Fluff and Buford is a second-stringer.

She said they were contacted in the fall for the fourth year, and they submitted seven possibile participants. They have already been to New York and taped the show that will air at 3 p.m. on Super Bowl Sunday, Feb. 3, on Animal Planet.

“It’s literally just a chaos of puppies on a miniature football field,” she said. “It’s really cute actually. Toys everywhere, bowls built into the field they have cameras with them. It’s interesting, it’s really interesting.”
