These Dayton burglars grabbed plenty of valuables, but a unique pet was the attention-grabber

A Dayton man told police that a break-in at his home resulted in the theft of a number of valuables – including a python snake.

The burglary reported on Kipling Drive involved the theft of 29 pairs of tennis shoes, a 60-gallon aquarium, a gold chain and two flat screen televisions, as well as the black-and-gold pet snake, according to a police report.

The victim said he valued the items at more than $8,900, including $4,000 for the shoes and $3,800 for the gold chain. The snake was valued at $150.

Pythons are part of a family of nonvenomous snakes whose members are some of the largest snakes, growing up to 350 pounds. No details were given about the size of the snake reported stolen.

The thefts were reported May 17 and were believed to have occurred between 2 a.m. and 8 a.m., according to the police report.

A former tenant of the home said that living room furniture had been flipped over as if the room had been searched, records show. Police said they found a bedroom in disarray with shoe boxes and clothing strewn across the floor.
