Here are five things to know about the shooting:
•The suspect has a felony record, police said, and pointed a gun toward officers as they sought to confront him while the suspect left a hotel room. Neither the identity of the suspect or the officer involved in the shooting has been released.
The suspect has not yet been charged and the officer has been placed on paid administrative leave, which is standard procedure, police said.

•Indiana authorities called Miamisburg police Tuesday asking if officers in that city were available to meet with their crews at the hotel in an effort to apprehend the man.
•Miamisburg police fired at the Dayton man after he pointed the gun and the suspect was wounded "at least once," police said. The number of shots fired "is not locked down," police said. It is unclear whether the suspect shot at the officers, but early indications were that he did not, according to police.

•The shooting prompted officers from the Tactical Crime Suppression Unit to respond, police said. Members of the TCSU are Centerville, Germantown, Kettering, Miamisburg, Moraine, Oakwood, Springboro and West Carrollton. The number of units responding has been a factor in authorities sorting out – and releasing – information, police said.
•It is the fourth police-involved shooting in southern Montgomery County in the past six months and two of them have been deadly. The Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation has investigated the previous shootings and is looking into Tuesday's incident.

A grand jury did not charge Moraine police officers in the Oct. 20 fatal shooting of Jamarco McShann of Dayton. Neither did a grand jury charge a Miami Twp. officer in a Feb. 5 Miamisburg shooting of a 17-year-old Dayton male said to be fleeing an armed robbery.
No grand jury decision has been announced in the Dec. 20 fatal shooting of Miami Twp. resident Robert Edwards by Miami Twp. officer.
