The base will be closed “with the exception of base personnel required to maintain minimum base operation functions,” according to Wright-Patterson’s public affairs office.
Both the New York Stock Exchange and The Nasdaq will be closed Wednesday. Federal agencies may order some offices to remain open for national security purposes, according to an executive order by President Donald Trump.
The U.S. Postal Service will suspend mail delivery and retail services Wednesday.
Trump ordered the American flag to be lowered to half-staff on all public buildings, military bases and overseas embassies for a period of 30 days. Ohio Gov. John Kasich also issued an order for flags to be lowered.
Sending memorial messages
The Baker-Hazel & Snider Funeral Home is asking those in the Dayton area to leave a memory and pay tribute to Bush.
A register book at the funeral home will be available until 5 p.m. Wednesday. It will be sent to the family and the Bush presidential library in College Station, Texas, according to the funeral home.
Routsong Funeral Home in Kettering is also inviting guests to sign a registry book that will be sent to the family. Routsong is making the book available from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Tuesday.

Bush lying in state, memorial Wednesday
Bush, who was president from 1989 to 1993, will lie in state in the U.S. Capitol rotunda for a ceremony and public visitation through Wednesday. An invitation-only funeral service is set for Wednesday at Washington National Cathedral.
President Trump and first lady Melania Trump are to attend. Bush’s family has not said who will speak at the service. Former President Jimmy Carter also will be there.
Afterward, Bush will be returned to Houston to lie in repose at St. Martin’s Episcopal Church before burial Thursday at his family plot on the library grounds. His final resting place will be alongside Barbara Bush, his wife of 73 years who died in April, and Robin Bush, the daughter they lost to leukemia in 1953 at age 3.
