If you’re a Fairfield student and haven’t made your ‘prom-posal’ yet, make sure you record it. Here’s why.

If you’re a Fairfield student and haven’t made your “prom-posal” just yet, make sure you record it first.

It could win you and your date tickets to the big dance, and cash towards dinner.

The Fairfield Police Department and the Fairfield Prevention Coalition have partnered to award two couples tickets to this year’s Fairfield High School prom on May 12, and each couple will win $50 Visa gift cards for dinner that night.

“It’s just a good way to engage and interact with the community, to engage the students,” said Fairfield Police Chief Steve Maynard, who said the “prom-posal” video contest was the idea of Fairfield police Det. Ellie King.

The rules of the contest — which started on Monday, April 2 and runs until April 16 — only state all videos must be in good taste, be 3 minutes or less and taken outside of school hours.

All videos must be submitted to Fairfield School Resource Officer Kevin Harrington by email at harrington_k@fairfield-city.k12.oh.us.

The top five videos will be posted on the city of Fairfield’s Facebook page for public voting.

Maynard said the goal for this contest is to help students to “make this a prom they won’t forget, not a night they will regret.”

Deb Neyer, with the Fairfield Prevention Coalition, said they hope to get a lot of students to participate because “it’s a good time to be aware of your actions and not get into trouble.”

Fairfield schools spokeswoman Gina Gentry-Fletcher said district officials “appreciate” the partnership with the police department and the Fairfield Prevention Coalition “and embrace this great idea.”

“Engaging our students in this project will give them ownership in seeing that they and their classmates make smart and safe decisions on prom night,” she said. “We can’t thank the Fairfield Police Department enough for this learning opportunity.”
