The award goes to schools that increase student participation or access to Advanced Placement coursework, while also improving performance (or maintaining high performance) on end of year AP exams.
Only 32 school districts in Ohio (roughly 5 percent) earned the award this year.
Advanced Placement is a program created by the College Board where college-level curriculum is offered to high school students, who can earn college credit with high scores on the end-of-year examinations.
Springboro school officials said they’ve increased their AP offerings each of the past four years, and will add their 24th program (AP Human Geography) next fall.
“It is the goal of our district to offer a variety of courses to all of our students,” curriculum director Andrea Cook said. “AP courses allow students to seek the most rigorous coursework available at the high school level. … We are excited that our students continue to strive to be the best and make the choice to conquer the challenges associated with AP courses.”
