A  year ago, the president of Penn Station East Coast Subs was looking for an idea to help folks ring in the new year — or perhaps to recover from the end of the last one — and he came up with the idea of offering free fries for a week in what the southwest Ohio-based chain called its "Happy New Year from our President" promotion.

Apparently, customers liked the idea, and this year, the fast-casual sub sandwich chain that operates more than a dozen locations in the Miami Valley is expanding the offer this year by a couple of days.

Starting Tuesday Jan. 7, and extending through Jan. 15, customers can get a free small order of fresh-cut fries with the purchase of any sandwich at all Penn Station restaurants. No coupon is necessary.

Last year, those same fries captured second place in the "Best Fries" category in the Dayton.com Best of 2018. Coincidentally, voting on the Best of Dayton contest also began on Jan. 7.

“Our fresh-cut fries are one of our most popular and well-known menu items, so they are the perfect way to thank our customers,” Craig Dunaway, president of Penn Station, said in a release. “After a busy holiday season, this will be a nice treat for our customers to start a new decade.”
