Baseball: Chaminade Julienne advances to state final

Wissman throws one-hitter against Steubenville

Chaminade Julienne will play for the Division II state baseball championship, advancing with a 3-0 victory over Steubenville in the semifinal Thursday at Huntington Park.

Garrett Wissman pitched a complete-game, one-hit shutout. Steubenville broke up his no-hit bid with an infield single with two outs in the fifth. He struck out seven and walked one.

The Eagles will play Tallmadge in the state championship game at 1 p.m. Saturday at Huntington Park. Tallmadge (24-7) beat Maumee 4-1. CJ seeks its first state baseball title since 1970. Tallmadge won the state title in 2002.

Ryan Peltier hit a solo home run in the first. Ben Thomas drove in the second run with a two-out single in the second. The third run scored on a wild pitch in the fifth.

CJ won its only state title in 1970. This is its first state appearance since 1975.
