The Bengals are coming off a losing campaign, their first since 2010. As the team tries to recover, it appears it can again lean on its great depth.

Friday’s 23-12 win over the Buccaneers, as meaningless as it was, showcased the Bengals’ deep roster. Third string quarterback Jeff Driskel looked as good as he ever has, completing eight of nine passes for 97 yards and a score. He additionally rushed for an 18-yard touchdown.

Rookie running back Joe Mixon showed elusiveness and vision in his six rush attempts. Reserve back Tra Carson even flashed potential.

William Jackson III, Jordan Willis, Carl Lawson and Andrew Billings provided hope for additional depth on both the defense’s levels. Both kickers, Jake Elliott and Randy Bullock, impressed, converting two long field goals.

Perhaps most enticing, quarterback Andy Dalton will throw to A.J. Green, Tyler Boyd, John Ross and Tyler Eifert. If the Bengals fail to make the postseason for the second consecutive year, it won’t be from their lack of depth.
