Cannatelli scores 26 as Dayton women win 13th straight game

The University of Dayton women’s basketball team won its 13th straight game Wednesday night, routing host UMass 78-49 in Atlantic 10 play at the Mullins Center.

Junior Lauren Cannatelli drained seven 3-pointers on her way to a game-high 26 points. She also dished out six assists.Alex Harris (16 points, 12 rebounds) and JaVonna Layfield (12 points, 17 rebounds) both recorded a double-double.

Jenna Burdette and Jordan Wilmoth added nine points apiece.

“This was just a great, great team win,” Dayton coach Shauna Green said. “Everyone did their job and everyone that came in provided a spark.”

The Flyers led 39-27 at halftime but pulled away in the third quarter. Cannatelli drained her fifth 3-pointer of the game to start the quarter as Dayton outscored UMass 24-11.

Dayton dished out 25 assists and commited just seven turnovers. The Flyers outrebounded the Minutewomen 56-41 and had a 25-10 second-chance point advantage thanks to 22 offensive boards.

The Flyers are back on the road Sunday at George Washington in a game that will be televised on ESPNU (12 p.m.)
