College Insider: O’Callaghan having another big year for Capital lax

It’s been another dominating lacrosse season for Capital University’s Brennan O’Callaghan.

The senior attacker and Lakota West High School graduate became the first Capital player to reach 300 career points in last Saturday’s 21-4 win at Heidelberg.

O’Callaghan has 304 points and ranks second in the Ohio Athletic Conference with 71 (53 goals, 18 assists) this year. His goal total is No. 1 in the OAC.

Sophomore midfielder Ed Carroll (Fairfield) has played in five games for the Crusaders and scored three goals.

Capital, 8-5 overall and 4-2 in the conference, will be at home for Senior Night on Wednesday, facing Wilmington at 7 p.m.

Softball: Sophomore pitcher Danielle Ray (Badin) is 5-1 with two saves and 2.69 earned run average this season for Trine (Ind.), which is 24-8 overall and 7-5 in the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association.

Ray has 35 strikeouts in 41.2 innings. She’s made six starts and four relief appearances.

The Thunder will travel to Michigan for a 5 p.m. doubleheader against Adrian on Wednesday.

Baseball: Sophomore first baseman Mitchell Raley (Badin) is hitting .261 with two doubles and nine RBIs for Ohio Wesleyan, which is 14-16 overall and 6-6 in the North Coast Athletic Conference.

Raley has played in 20 games and started 15 for the Battling Bishops. They will host Muskingum for a 2 p.m. doubleheader Wednesday.

Women's golf: Bowling Green freshman Sammi Blackburn (Monroe) took 43rd place in the Mid-American Conference Championships last weekend at the Naperville (Ill.) Country Club.

Blackburn had a three-day total of 248 (80-84-84) on the par-72 course. The Falcons finished last in the 10-team field with 964 strokes, while Kent State was the team champion with 853.

Women's lacrosse: Senior attacker Amanda Hodel (Lakota West) has five goals and senior midfielder Danielle Acuna (Lakota West) has scored one this year for Walsh.

The Cavaliers are 9-5 overall and 6-3 in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference. They will visit Ohio Valley on Tuesday at 4 p.m.
