College Insider: Fenwick’s Rossi among A-10 track & field headliners

University of Dayton senior Jenni Rossi was named the Most Outstanding Field Performer on May 6 after a trio of top-three finishes at the Atlantic 10 Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships in Fairfax, Va.

Rossi, a Fenwick High School graduate, won the shot put (14.90 meters) and hammer throw (56.27 meters). Her hammer effort was the fourth-best in UD history.

She also placed third in the discus (48.36 meters).

The Flyers ended up second in the team standings, their highest finish since 2011. Dayton’s 109 points trailed only Virginia Commonwealth (159).

Baseball: Senior catcher Saige Micomonaco (Madison) played in 23 games and hit .314 this season for Bethany (W.Va.).

Micomonaco had two doubles, two triples, one home run and 14 RBIs for the Bison, who finished 13-23.

On May 9, Micomonaco was named to the D3Baseball.com Team of the Week for a performance that included 7-of-12 hitting with two triples, seven RBIs and a .917 slugging percentage.

• Junior pitcher Jarod Morrison (Hamilton) had a 6-4 record this year and led Gannon (Pa.) in victories.

Morrison threw 62.2 innings with a 5.31 earned run average and 40 strikeouts for the Golden Knights, who finished 31-18. He made 14 appearances, 11 as a starter, and pitched three complete games.

• Senior pitcher Wes Noble (Lebanon) was 6-6 this season for Campbell (N.C.), tying for the team lead in victories.

Noble made 12 starts and four relief appearances for the Fighting Camels, who finished 31-23. He had a 4.88 earned run average with 60 strikeouts in 66.1 innings.

Softball: Junior middle infielder Katie Tarter (Fairfield) had a .313 batting average with two doubles, nine RBIs and two steals this year for Mount St. Joseph, which had a 23-13 record.

Junior outfielder Hayley Hudson (Ross) hit .279 with six RBIs and 11 steals, and freshman pitcher Michaela Finkbine (Edgewood) totaled eight innings in five appearances with a 5.25 earned run average.

Women's lacrosse: Freshman midfielder Jennifer Douyere (Lakota West) was the fourth-leading scorer for Earlham this year, totaling seven goals and three assists.

The Quakers finished 5-11.
