College softball: Lakota West’s Cummins will continue career at Miami

Allie Cummins is headed for the Mid-American Conference after all.

The recent Lakota West High School graduate and Division I All-Ohio softball standout announced her decommitment from Akron on May 31 and will now continue her career closer to home at Miami University.

The shortstop hit .591 with 17 doubles, three triples, nine home runs and 44 RBIs this spring as the Firebirds went 26-4 and reached the D-I state title game.

Cummins declined to comment through Miami assistant athletic communications director Mike Roth, who said, “She wants to keep her reasons (for committing) private for now. She does not want to do an interview.”

MU was 24-25 under sixth-year coach Clarisa Crowell in 2018. Alyssa Hedric, a 2014 West graduate, battled injuries during her RedHawk career and played in 33 games in 2016 and 2017.
