The beef between Michigan coach Jim Harbaugh and Michigan State coach Mark Dantonio is not going away any time soon.
After Michigan was selected to play in the bigger bowl game (Outback Bowl on Jan. 1) than Michigan State (Holiday Bowl Dec. 28), Dantonio expressed his frustration over the situation on Sunday, noting that the Spartans defeated the Wolverines 14-10 in Ann Arbor this season.
“I just look at it as an opportunity to play in the Holiday Bowl right now. The records are what they are. I’ll just continue to focus on beating Michigan and let things sort of sort out,” Dantonio said on Sunday.
This prompted Harbaugh to respond to Dantonio’s comments on Twitter on Monday.
“Saw Coach D comments on continuing to ‘focus’ on how ‘he’ can beat Michigan,” Harbaugh tweeted. “Congrats on turning around a 3-9 team, plagued with off field issues. Good for BIG to have him back.”
Harbaugh had the opportunity to clarify his comments on Thursday in an interview with Justin Granit of 10 News WTSP (Tampa, Fla.), and he didn’t hold back.
“I didn’t understand how [Dantonio] dragged us into his frustration into what bowl game he went to,” Harbaugh said. “I just prefer he didn’t talk about us.”
Granit then asked Harbaugh if it was healthy for the two coaches to have that fun banter.
“Yeah, yeah. Healthy,” Harbaugh said sarcastically.
