Jon Gruden addresses the idea of him coaching again

Football teams at all levels — whether it be college, the NFL or right here in the SEC — have had Jon Gruden at the top of their coaching wish list for years, but there’s rarely been an indication he’d leave his cushy ESPN job for another spot on the sidelines.

That changed slightly on Friday, when Gruden spoke with Rich Eisen about the possibility of him returning to the coaching profession.

Jon Gruden on if he’ll coach again on @RichEisen today, “One of these days, you never know…I have talked to people (about jobs) in years past and I plan on keeping my options open…If something comes along down the road I’ll take a look at it.” #grumors

Tennessee and Florida fans have to like the sound of that! It’s still a pipe dream for any college program to land Gruden, who hasn’t coached at the amateur level since 1991 and has never been a collegiate head coach, but there’s still a chance!

The SEC could be heading toward its most tumultuous coaching carousel in recent memory. Ole Miss and Florida already have openings to fill. Tennessee, Texas A&M, Arkansas, Missouri and Auburn all have coaches on the hot seat, to one degree or another. Mississippi State’s Dan Mullen could leave Starkville for a bigger job.

Suffice it to say, if Gruden does opt to come back to coaching at the collegiate level, there will be no shortage of suitors.
