COLUMBUS, Ohio — The quarterback recruiting carousel has taken another turn at Ohio State.
With 4-star commit Emory Jones continuing to take visits to Alabama and Auburn — and not shutting down his recruitment — Ohio State has accepted a commitment from Austin (Texas) Lake Travis 3-star quarterback Matthew Baldwin.
Baldwin announced his commitment Thursday night in a Twitter post.
“It is Faith, Family, Friends and the constant support from the Lake Travis community that has gotten me to this point,” he wrote. I am extremely thankful for the people that have pushed me to be a better player and person. It is an incredible honor to say that I am committed to THE Ohio State University!”

It’s unclear in the immediate aftermath what this means for Jones and the status of his commitment. It’s believed that both Alabama and Ohio State would push for a final answer this weekend with the early signing period beginning Dec. 20 and time running out to lock up a quarterback.
Ohio State coach Urban Meyer said he would be willing to take two quarterbacks in this class if that’s what it meant to ensure the Buckeyes wouldn’t get left with none.
“[It’s] possible, possible,” Meyer said about taking two quarterbacks in the Class of 2018. “Just like you said the issue that’s going to come up here is the early signing period. And you still don’t know who is going to declare for the draft a month later. [Buckeyes director of player personnel] Mark [Pantoni] just keeps wanting to talk to me about it — and I said, give me some time. But we don’t have much time.
“But the other thing you’re going to see is the guy you keep on the back burner and try to flip him at the end, he signs on [Dec. 20th, the first day of the early signing period], you don’t have those guys, either. It’s going to be an interesting year.”
