Late free throws by Crutcher seal Dayton victory after rally by Georgia Southern

Flyers finish non-conference schedule with 8-5 record

Jalen Crutcher made four free throws in the final 13 seconds to help the Dayton Flyers beat Georgia Southern 94-90 on Saturday at UD Arena in the final non-conference game of the season.

Dayton (8-5) led for the entire second half, often by double digits, but saw its lead trimmed to one point with 2:43 to play.

Crutcher gave Dayton a four-point lead with 13 seconds to play and then hit two more free throws with five seconds to play to seal the victory.

Josh Cunningham led the Flyers with 25 points on 10-of-14 shooting. Obi Toppin scored 22 points and electrified the crowd in the second half with the dunk of the season, taking the ball between his legs before slamming it down.

Quan Jackson scored 24 points for Georgia Southern (8-4). Tookie Brown added 20. Georgia Southern got back in the game by shooting 9 of 15 from 3-point range in the second half after making 3 of 11 in the second half.

HALFTIME RECAP

A dunk by Toppin in the final seconds of the first half capped a 15-6 run over the last four minutes as the Flyers built a 47-34 halftime lead.

Toppin scored seven points on 3-of-4 shooting. Josh Cunningham led the Flyers with 19 points on 8-of-9 shooting.

Jordan Davis scored eight points and made 2 of 4 3-pointers. Jalen Crutcher added six points and four assists.

Dayton trailed 23-17 midway through the half but grabbed the lead with a 9-2 run. The Flyers committed nine turnovers but forced 10 turnovers, and it was the defense that got them back in the game. The Flyers scored 12 points off turnovers and 11 points on the fast break.

Dayton shot 54.1 percent. Georgia Southern shot 45.2 percent.

Quan Jackson led Georgia Southern with 12 points. Tookie Brown and Isaiah Crawley each scored six.
