Serrel Smith reopens his recruitment after Mississippi coach Andy Kennedy steps down

A 2018 recruit who visited the Dayton Flyers in September is reopening his recruitment after signing with Mississippi.

Serrel Smith, a 6-foot-3 guard from St. Petersburg, Fla., announced Tuesday he has asked to be released from his signed letter of intent. His decision came after Ole Miss coach Andy Kennedy stepped down in February.

Dayton was one of four schools to contact Smith's high school coach, Chris Blackwell, on Tuesday after Smith's announcement, according to Bob Putnam, of the Tampa Bay Times.

Smith is a three-star recruit who ranks 177th in the class of 2018, according to 247Sports.com. Dayton has one scholarship open after the decision by Xeyrius Williams to transfer.
