Dayton rallies from 22-point deficit to win at GW for first time since 2009

Jordan Davis scores 25 and sparks offense in second half

It’s Dayton’s first win at GW since 2009 and its fourth in 17 chances. It’s the second road victory of the last two seasons. The Flyers finished 1-8 on the road in conference play last season.

Dayton (10-5, 2-0) won its fifth straight game. It’s the longest winning streak of Anthony Grant’s first two seasons.

Jordan Davis was the story of the second half. The Dayton sophomore made 7 of 11 3-pointers and finished with 25 points. He even had Grant pumping his fist after a go-ahead 3-pointer at the 9:50 mark in the second half.

Dayton trailed by as many as 17 points early in the second half but got back in the game with a 12-2 run. The Flyers took the lead for good on a dunk by Obi Toppin at the 8:53 mark.

Jalen Crutcher and Trey Landers sealed the victory with four free throws in the final 25 seconds.

 
 

 

HALFTIME RECAP

Two years after making its first nine shots against the Dayton Flyers in the last matchup between the teams at the Smith Center, George Washington made its first 10 shots Wednesday en route to a 40-30 halftime lead.

Dayton trailed 25-4 six minutes into the game. The Colonials made their first five 3-pointers.

Dayton rallied from a 33-11 deficit by outscoring GW 19-7 in the final 10 minutes.

Dwayne Cohill led the Flyers with seven points. All eight scholarship players scored. Cohill and Frankie Policelli, who scored three points, were on the court together for a long stretch as the Flyers began their comeback.

Justin Mazzulla led GW with 11 points. The Colonials shot 50 percent. Dayton shot 44.8 percent. GW made 8 of 16 3-pointers. Dayton made 3 of 11.
