Dayton forwards Cunningham, Toppin win weekly Atlantic 10 honors

Flyers start conference play Sunday against Richmond

Dayton Flyers redshirt senior forward Josh Cunningham was named Atlantic 10 Conference Co-Player of the Week on Monday, and redshirt freshman forward Obi Toppin was named the conference’s co-rookie of the week.

Cunningham had 25 points, six rebounds and five assists in Dayton's only game of the week, a 94-90 victory against Georgia Southern on Saturday.

Toppin scored 22 points on 9-of-10 shooting in the same game. He ranks second in the nation in field-goal percentage (73.3).

Richmond’s Grant Golden, who had 22 points, eight rebounds and six assists in a victory against South Alabama, shared the co-player of the week award with Cunningham. Richmond’s Jake Wojcik, who had 22 points, shared the award with Toppin.

Dayton and Richmond play at noon Sunday at UD Arena in the A-10 opener for both teams.

This is the second time Toppin has won the award. He was also honored Nov. 12. This is the first time this season Cunningham has won the award.
