Dayton women overcome Davidson with strong 2nd half


The University of Dayton’s women basketball team scored 30 points in the fourth quarter and picked up another Atlantic 10 road win at Davidson, 85-68, on Saturday.

The Flyers (16-4, 9-0 A-10) remained unbeaten in A-10 play and atop the conference standings while the Wildcats (9-13, 4-5 A-10) fell below .500 in the league.

Dayton sank 11 of 16 field-goal attempts in the fourth period, including 4 of 6 from 3-point range, to put the game out of reach.

In all, the Flyers made 13 three-pointers, tied for the fourth most in school history.

Jenna Burdette led the Flyers with 29 points and made a career-high seven 3-pointers. Jayla Scaife and Lauren Cannatelli finished with 17 points apiece and Javonna Layfield recorded her 10th double-double with 15 rebounds and 10 points.

The Flyers return home to UD Arena to host Duquesne on Wednesday at 7 p.m.

Wright State 69, Youngstown St. 59: Wright State hung on after squandering an 18-point lead to top the Penguins in Youngstown.

WSU (16-6, 7-3 Horizon League) led 39-23 at halftime, then by 18 three different times in the first five minutes of the second half before YSU started rallying. The Penguins went on a 15-2 run to climb to within five late in the third period and eventually took a 56-54 lead with 3:45 left in the fourth. Wright State regrouped and outscored the Penguins 15-3 down the stretch.

The Raiders forced 19 YSU turnovers, which led to a 23-7 scoring advantage in points off miscues.

Chelsea Welch had 23 points, five assists and four steals for WSU and Emily Vogelpohl had 19 points and 10 rebounds.
