Dragons series opener suspended, will resume today

Dayton’s series opener with visiting Lake County was suspended Monday night because of rain with the score tied 2-2 in the middle of the fifth inning. The game will resume Tuesday at 6 p.m. at Fifth Third Field with the Dragons batting in the bottom of the fifth. The gates will open at 5:30.

After that nine-inning game is completed, the teams will play a seven-inning game.

Lake County (19-24) took a 1-0 lead in the first inning against Packy Naughton on an RBI double by Jonathan Laureano.

The Dragons took the lead in the second on John Sansone’s fourth home run, a 107-mph shot over the left-field wall. The Captains tied the score when Oscar Gonzalez led off the fourth with a home run.

Naughton allowed five hits in five innings and struck out four. Captains starter Gregori Vasquez allowed five hits, including four for extra bases, and struck out two in four innings.

With the Reds having a night off, new pitching coach Danny Darwin was in the stands behind home plate getting a look at Naughton, a ninth-round pick last year from Virginia Tech. Observing in the dugout was Reds Hall of Famer Barry Larkin, a special assistant in the player development office.
