Eifert, Ross cleared for start of Bengals training camp

Cincinnati Bengals tight end Tyler Eifert and rookie first-round wide receiver John Ross both said they are cleared to participate in the first practice of training camp Friday afternoon.

“I knew I was going to be cleared,” said Eifert, who is returning from back surgery. “Even before I saw the doctor, I knew I’d get cleared. I was like why are you wasting my time with this appointment?”

While Eifert is 100 percent, saying he has been for a month and a half to two months, Ross will be easing his way into action after sitting out all of the offseason drills due to the labrum surgery he had after the Combine.

But Ross said he’ll be running routes and participating in some 11-on-11 drills this afternoon.

“I’m definitely excited just because it’s been so long for me,” Ross said. “When you have to watch, it’s harder to be excited and be in tune with things when you’re not doing anything. Now I get to be a part of it.”

There’s still no word on running back Giovani Bernard, who tore his ACL on Nov. 20. Bernard made a quick pass through the locker room without stopping to talk to reporters.

We’ll find out his status at 3 p.m. when the team hits the field for practice.
