Five area teams No. 1 in football computer ratings

Centerville (Division I, Region 3), Trotwood-Madison (D-III, Region 12), Valley View (D-IV, Region 16), Anna (D-V, Region 20) and Marion Local (D-VI, Region 24) all were ranked No. 1 in this week’s high school football computer rankings that were released by the Ohio High School Athletic Association on Tuesday.

All those teams are undefeated through the season’s midway point. The top eight teams in each division following the end of the regular season qualify for the playoffs.

The Greater Western Ohio Conference has seven teams in contention for the postseason, including five in the GWOC National East Division. Following Centerville is Wayne (4-1) at No. 3. Centerville is at Wayne in a Week 6 showdown on Friday. Tied for No. 5 is Beavercreek (5-0) and Fairmont (4-1). Beavercreek defeated Fairmont 14-3 last week. Springfield (4-1) is No. 8.

The other GWOC team besides Trotwood in contention is unbeaten Sidney (No. 4 in D-II, Region 8).

Valley View secured its top spot with a stunning 34-3 knockout of Franklin in a Week 5 showdown of unbeaten Southwestern Buckeye League powers. Despite the loss Franklin (4-1) remains No. 2 in D-III, Region 12 behind Trotwood.

The Midwest Athletic Conference matched the GWOC’s seven teams in top-8 contention. Joining Anna and Marion Local were St. Henry (No. 3), Coldwater (No. 7) and Fort Recovery (No. 8), all in D-VI, Region 24. In D-VII, Region 24, the MAC was represented by Delphos St. John’s (No. 3) and Minster (No. 4).

Anna is at Marion Local in a Week 6 game on Friday.

Computer points are awarded for victories and second-level points are earned for wins by defeated opponents.

• Centerville (5-0) soared to No. 5 in this week’s Associated Press D-I state poll ranking and Wayne (4-1) climbed to No. 8. Yet another GWOC National East team, Beavercreek (5-0) ranks No. 11.

In D-II, Sidney (5-0) improved one spot to No. 6. Trotwood-Madison (5-0) retained its top spot in D-III, but Franklin (4-1) fell from sixth to No. 10 following a 34-3 loss at Valley View. That Spartans’ win improved their D-IV ranking to No. 2 behind leader Steubenville. Valley View (5-0) was No. 3 last week.

In D-V, Anna (5-0) retained its No. 3 spot and Greeneview (5-0) moved into the No. 10 position, the first time the Rams have cracked the top 10. Marion Local (5-0) remains No. 1 in D-VI with Midwest Athletic Conference rivals Coldwater (3-2) No. 7 and St. Henry (4-1) No. 8. In D-VII, Minster (3-2) fell from No. 4 to No. 9 following a 28-27 loss to Fort Recovery and Lehman Catholic (4-1) is No. 10.
