Defending D-I state champion Pickerington Central (5-0) is No. 1 in Region 3.
Chaminade Julienne (5-0) and Trotwood-Madison (3-2) were 1-2 in D-III, Region 12. CJ, which dropped to No. 2 in the state poll, retained its top computer ranking position and the Rams moved up from No. 5. Also bunched in Region 12 were Butler (No. 4), Alter (No. 5), Fenwick (No. 7) and Carroll (No. 9). Bellbrook (5-0) dropped from first to second in D-III, Region 11.

Middletown Madison (5-0) retained its No. 2 spot in D-V, Region 20.
Coldwater (5-0) also was No. 1 again in D-VI, Region 24. The Cavaliers were joined by Marion Local and Mechanicsburg (tie for No. 3), Troy Christian (No. 7) and St. Henry (No. 9).

Fort Loramie (4-1) took over the D-VII, Region 28 top spot after former No. 1 Convoy Crestview lost. Minster (4-1) improved two places to No. 2. Loramie’s only loss was the season opener to Minster, 34-14.
The top eight teams in each of the 28 regions after the end of the regular season qualify for the playoffs. Teams are awarded first-level points for wins and second-level points for wins by a defeated opponent. The numeric formula is affected by a sliding point scale, with D-I the most.

• Coldwater (D-VI) retained its top-ranked position in the second weekly Associated press state football polls that were released on Monday. The Cavaliers had a 16-8 advantage in first-place votes over Midwest Athletic Conference rival and No. 2 Marion Local. Both teams are 5-0 and headed to a Week 10 regular-season showdown.
Chaminade Julienne (D-III) dropped to No. 2 behind Canfield, although the Eagles held an 11-10 advantage in first-place votes. Both 5-0, the teams were tied for No. 1 last week.

Making its first appearance in the D-I top 10 was Springfield (5-0) at No. 10. Miamisburg (5-0), the area’s only other unbeaten D-I team, improved to No. 12.
• Boys and girls soccer will hold seed meetings on Sunday, Oct. 7 for those upcoming sectionals.
Unbeaten boys teams going into Tuesday’s matches were Centerville (9-0-2), Carroll (10-0-0), Alter (8-0-2), Troy Christian (10-0-0) and West Liberty-Salem (9-0-0). Unbeaten girls teams were Beavercreek (10-0-0) and Troy Christian (10-0-0).

Sidney senior Elaine Wiesenmayer leads area girls with 22 goals, 12 assists and 56 points. Eaton senior James Howard (15 goals, 13 assists) and Jalen Hudgins (19 goals, five assists), a junior at Troy Christian, are the boys co-leaders with 43 points.
• The girls tennis sectionals are next week at Centerville, Fairmont and Troy (D-I) and Centerville and Troy (D-II). Those top four advance to the district at the Lindner Family Tennis Center in Mason, where the state tournament also will be held.

• Football isn’t the only sport that has taken a weather hit. The girls D-II sectional that was scheduled for Monday has been rescheduled for Thursday at WGC Golf Course in Xenia. The other area D-II girls sectional is Wednesday at Stillwater Valley in Versailles.
The boys D-II golf sectional at Pipestone in Miamisburg is on Wednesday. The boys D-II sectional at Reid Park in Springfield was rescheduled for Thursday. The boys D-III sectionals were scheduled for Tuesday at Beechwood in Arcanum, Turtle Creek in Greenville and Walden Ponds in Hamilton.
The D-I boys (Yankee Trace, Centerville; and Reid Park) and girls (Yankee Trace, Walden Ponds) sectionals are next week.

• Six former Springboro girls golf standouts are playing collegiately this fall season, which might be an area record. The three senior alums are Erin Bruner (Berry College, Ga.), Morgan Eib (Ashland) and Sarah Kern (Bowling Green). The others are junior Maddie Durbin (Otterbein), sophomore Hannah McCrabb (Asbury, Ky.) and freshman Alexis Savage (Tiffin).

All but Savage were on two-time state qualifying Panthers teams that were coached by Brad Smith. A former University of Dayton men’s and women’s golf coach, Smith joined the Cincinnati women’s coaching staff as an assistant in 2016 and was succeeded by Courtney Boyd as Springboro’s girls coach.
