Flyin’ adjusts Saturday lineup after weather KO’s three teams

The 17th annual Premier Health Flyin’ to the Hoop has adjusted its lineup of games for Saturday.

That initially was due to Olentangy Liberty and Hilliard Bradley high schools both bowing out of the midseason basketball hoopfest at Fairmont’s Trent Arena due to expected worsening weather. On Saturday morning, the Day 2 opener of top-ranked Carroll (15-0) vs. defending state champ Minster (14-1) was canceled.

Saturday’s first game will be at 1:15 p.m. between Xenia and First Love Christian (Pa.). Doors open at noon.

It was the second straight year Olentangy Liberty and Hilliard Bradley opted not to attend after the event started. The Minster girls were not allowed to travel because of weather concerns.

Centerville (7-5), which had been scheduled to play in Saturday’s Flyin’ Game 5 at 3 p.m., has been bumped to Game 6 against Oak Ridge (Fla.) at 4:45 p.m. Oak Ridge originally was to play Bradley.

Crestwood Prep (Ont.) will now play Cincinnati Dohm Prep in Game 5 at 3 p.m. The teams were scheduled to play at Cincinnati on Saturday, but both eagerly agreed to Flyin’.

“The Dohm coach said, are you kidding?” Flyin’ founder Eric Horstman said. “That’s the difference between playing in front of 50 people or 5,000.”
