Football recruiting: Area’s top-rated player makes his choice


Steven Faucheux has made his college decision. 

The Lakota West senior defensive lineman announced Monday night he will be a Purdue Boilermaker next season. 

Faucheux is a four-star prospect and the No. 9 player in Ohio according to 247Sports composite rankings
He is the top-rated player in the Cox Media Group Ohio coverage area and the 12th to verbally commit so far. 

Springfield receiver Michael Brown-Stephens was the most recent before Faucheux, making the call for Minnesota over the weekend

Lakota West’s Jeremiah Ross, a three-star defensive back, committed to Cincinnati earlier in the summer

Ohio high school teams began preseason practice Monday. 

The Boilermakers are set to sign an area player for the second year in a row after inking Mason offensive lineman Eric Miller in the class of 2018.
