Miami RedHawks basketball: Games vs. Xavier, Butler, Wright State, NKU highlight non-conference schedule

The Miami University men’s basketball team will open the season against perennial NCAA Tournament team Butler and face area rivals Xavier, Wright State and Northern Kentucky this season.

The RedHawks on Friday released their 13-game non-conference schedule, which also features six home games and a trip to Nassau to compete in the Islands of the Bahamas.

After hosting Taylor (Ind.) University for an exhibition Nov. 5, the RedHawks open Nov. 10 at historic Hinkle Fieldhouse against Butler.

Miami’s home opener is Nov. 12 vs. Midway in its Bahamas Classic mainland game. The three-game classic follows Nov. 16-18. The full bracket and schedule will be released later this summer.

The RedHawks host Army on Nov. 24, then travel to Xavier on Nov. 28.

Wilberforce visits Millett Hall on Dec. 1. Miami visits Wright State on Dec. 5, then hosts Purdue Fort Wayne (formerly IPFW) on Dec. 8 before visiting Northern Kentucky on Dec. 16.

Non-conference play wraps up with two more home games — Dec. 20 vs. South Carolina State and Dec. 30 vs. Evansville.

Miami returns three starters and seven letterwinners from a team that finished 16-18 and reached the postseason (College Basketball Invitaitonal) for the first time since 2011 in coach Jack Owens’ first season at the helm.
