Four home runs last week by Gennett helped Reds during six-game win streak.

Cincinnati Reds second baseman Scooter Gennett continues to prove his career season a year ago wasn’t a fluke.

Gennett was named National League Player of the Week on Monday. He hit .591 (13 for 22) in five games with two doubles, four home runs, seven runs scored and 10 RBIs. He increased his season average from .289 to a team-best .329. He’s tied for fourth in the National League in batting average.

Gennett became the sixth player in Reds history to homer and record at least two RBIs in four straight games. He’s the second Red to win the award this season. Joey Votto won it for his performance in the last week of April.

Gennett hit 27 home runs last season, almost double his career high, and drove in 97 runs. He has six home runs and 24 RBIs in 39 games this season.
