Greenville’s Matt Light finalist for Patriots hall of fame

Greenville High School graduate Matt Light went against the best as a decorated member of the New England Patriots offensive line. And now he’s matched against the best of the Patriots.

Light, whose entire NFL career was spent with New England (2001-11), is one of three former Patriots who made the team’s hall of fame nomination cut this spring. He joins former defensive lineman Richard Seymour (2001-08) and linebacker Mike Vrabel (2001-08) in being nominated as a team hall of fame finalist.

Fans will electronically vote to decide which of the three will be a Patriots hall of famer. To be considered, a former Patriot must be four years removed from his NFL playing or coaching career. Only one of the three finalists will be enshrined.

The team’s website did not indicate when voting would end.

A second-round draft choice out of Purdue University, Light was an immediate hit and won three Super Bowls with the Patriots. He started all but two of 155 career games and was a three-time All-Pro.

He is the founder of The Light Foundation, a leadership program that targets at-risk youths from throughout the country on the 400-acre Chenoweth Trails ranch in Greenville.
