Ohio State basketball will begin the season Wednesday with one less player than expected.

The school announced Monday the decision of Micah Potter to transfer before the start of what would have been his junior season for the Buckeyes

“We appreciate Micah’s contributions to our program and we wish him the very best moving forward,” Ohio State coach Chris Holtmann said in a news release.

The Medina native started 16 of his 59 games at Ohio State.

Potter averaged 4.1 points and 2.8 rebounds while shooting 46 percent from the field (87-189).

He scored 13 points and grabbed six rebounds in Ohio State’s exhibition win over UNC Pembroke last Thursday night.

Ohio State opens the season Wednesday night at Cincinnati.
