Ohio State football: Nick Bosa will miss Penn State game; 2 other starters return

Ohio State is getting two starters back this week for a top 10 showdown with Penn State, but Nick Bosa is not one of them.

OSU coach Urban Meyer said Monday the All-American defensive end will be out "a few more weeks" after having surgery last week to repair a core muscle.

On the bright side, defensive tackle Robert Landers and running back Mike Weber will be back.

Landers, a junior from Wayne, missed last Saturday's win over Tulane with an unidentified injury.

Weber suffered a strained foot in the second quarter against the Green Wave.

He is half of a two-headed monster at running back for the Buckeyes, having rushed for 312 yards on 52 carries this season.

J.K. Dobbins has 325 yards on 56 carries.

Meyer acknowledged Bosa’s status as a potential No. 1 NFL draft pick next spring is something that will be taken into consideration in managing his return but that Bosa has told him he intends to suit up for the Buckeyes again when he is ready.

“We've already had those discussions a little bit, but that’s down the road when he becomes healthy again,” Meyer said. "You can't ask for a better family and people.”

He added that Bosa’s parents have told him, “We trust our children to this program, and we will continue to do so.”

With four sacks among his six tackles for loss in less than three games, Bosa was off to a fast start in what was already expected to be his last season suiting up for the Scarlet and Gray.

Sophomore Chase Young, who like Bosa was a five-star prospect coming out of high school, moved into the starting lineup last Saturday and logged a tackle for loss against the Green Wave.

True freshman Tyler Friday, whose role figures to expand with Bosa sidelined, logged his first career sack and was among the players Meyer said received a champion grade.
