Ohio State reveals timeline for conclusion of Urban Meyer investigation

Ohio State announced Friday afternoon its investigation into football coach Urban Meyer will be completed Sunday.

That is only the beginning of the end of the process of deciding if the coach will be reinstated as the coach of the Buckeyes, though.

Per the school, the investigative team will prepare a report for the independent working group overseeing the investigation, and that will be delivered next week.

After that, the working group will share the report with the Board of Trustees, which will hold an executive session that must be announced at least 24 hours in advance.

“Following deliberations with the board, and appropriate time for consideration, President Michael V. Drake will announce his decision,” according to the announcement.

Meyer has been on leave since August 1.

The independent working group led by Jo Ann Davidson was announced days later along with an investigative team led by Mary Jo White of New York law firm Debevoise and Plimpton.

They are looking into how Meyer handled allegations assistant coach Zach Smith abused his then-wife in 2015.

Meyer has said he followed all of the proper protocols at the time.

Ryan Day is serving as interim head coach in his absence.

Earlier Friday, Day released an overview of the first two weeks of preseason camp.

Ohio State begins the season Sept. 1 at home against Oregon State.
