HS Roundup 5/17: Butler, Kenton Ridge headed to district finals

Division I

Butler 4, Springboro 3: Butler broke a 3-3 tie in the top of the seventh inning to win a district semifinal. Jacob DeMoss drove in two runs and Boston Smith scored three times off of two hits for Butler, which will face the winner of Kings and Moeller on Saturday. Ben Barber, Spencer Virtue and Cameron Rountree each had one RBI for ‘Boro.

Division II

Kenton Ridge 9, Ben Logan 2: Kenton Ridge scored six runs in the third inning to pull away for the district semifinal win. Alex Ward and Quinton Roach each had RBI singles early for KR, which will face the CHCA/Fenwick winner on Saturday. Trace Tevis and Keegan Wilson both had multiple hits for Ben Logan.

Division III

Coldwater 10, Van Buren 2: Nathan Grunden tallied three hits in as many at bats and Austin Riethman added a pair of hits to pace Coldwater in a district semifinal. Coldwater advances to face a familiar foe in Fort Recovery on Saturday.

Boys Volleyball

Alter 3, McNicholas 0: Alter won with scores of 25-13, 25-23 and 25-17 to improve to 20-3 on the season and 14-0 in league play, claiming a fifth consecutive unbeaten league title. Dan Nye led the way with 13 kills with 16 digs and Thomas Junker added on five kills with six digs and three aces.

Hamilton 3, Edgewood 1: Jerry Beeler rattled off 13 assists, Griffin Smith added five aces and David Stolz six kills for Edgewood.

Boys Tennis

District Tournament

Division I at Lindner Family Tennis Center: Chris Holden of Lakota East and Austin Staiger of Beavercreek each advanced to the second day of district play with a pair of wins in singles.

Division II at Lindner Family Tennis Center: Fenwick’s Dylan Sagan and Miami Valley’s Colton Morehart picked up a pair of wins to move into the semifinals in singles. In doubles Milton Union’s Nathan Brumbaugh/Nick Brumbaugh and Miami Valley’s Makul Sharma/Reece Quigley will square off in semifinal play.

CBC All-League Team: Mitchell Foland of Tecumseh was tabbed as the player of the year for the Central Buckeye Conference. Teammates Drew Sarihan, Jacob Lewis and the doubles duo of Scot Sinkhorn/Parker Randenburg were also tabbed to the first team, along with Jonathan Alder’s Brandon Demdek and doubles teams Camron Smyczek/Nathan Wildofsky and Jaer Glass/Luke Macy of Northwestern.
