Scoochie Smith stars for Dayton Flyers in OT win

The Dayton Flyers pulled off one of their most dramatic victories of the season, rally from 13 points down in the final minutes to send the game to overtime and then beating Davidson 89-82 at Belk Arena thanks to one of the great performances in the career of Scoochie Smith.

Dayton’s senior point guard Smith scored 11 of his 17 points in overtime. He made three 3-pointers in the first three minutes of overtime. He did it all with four fouls. He picked up his fourth with 6:18 left in the second half and didn’t return to the game until the 2:50 mark. Backup point guard John Crosby helped engineer a comeback from a 70-57 deficit.

“It was fun, especially watching what my teammates do what they do without much contribution from me,” Smith said.

Smith played the entire overtime period. The Flyers never trailed again after his first 3-pointer.

“I was eager to make a play,” Smith said. “I didn’t make too many plays all game. After I made the first one, I knew it was over.”
