Sept. 24, 2006 – Cincinnati Bengals 28, Pittsburgh Steelers 20 at Heinz Field

Trailing 17-14 entering the fourth quarter, Carson Palmer threw two touchdown passes to T.J. Houshmandzadeh in a 54-second span to start the season 3-0 and avenge the playoff loss to the Steelers nine months prior. Pittsburgh outgained Cincinnati 365 to 246, but the Bengals recorded three sacks and three interceptions against Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger.

Sept. 24, 2000 – Baltimore Ravens 37, Cincinnati Bengals 0 at PSINet Stadium

One week after losing 13-0 at Jacksonville, the Bengals were blanked again for what remains the only instance of back-to-back shutouts in franchise history. Cincinnati gained 4 yards on 16 carries while quarterbacks Scott Mitchell and Akili Smith combined to throw for 109 yards, and coach Bruce Coslet retired the next day.

Sept. 24, 1995 – Houston Oilers 38, Cincinnati Bengals 28 at Riverfront Stadium

The Bengals fell behind 14-0 in the first quarter and were never able to recover despite a big day from quarterback Jeff Blake, who threw for 356 yards and three touchdowns to Carl Pickens, Darnay Scott and Tim McGee. Houston quarterback Chris Chandler was 23 of 26 for 352 yards and four touchdowns and a perfect 158.3 passer rating.

Sept. 24, 1978 – New Orleans Saints 20, Cincinnati Bengals 18 at Riverfront Stadium

The Bengals suffered their fourth of what would be eight consecutive losses to start the season when New Orleans rallied from an eight-point deficit in the fourth quarter. Saints kicker John Leypoldt made a game-winning 27-yard field goal at the gun.

Sept. 24, 1972 – Cincinnati Bengals 15, Pittsburgh Steelers 10 at Riverfront Stadium

Horst Muhlmann tied his franchise record of five field goals as the Bengals rallied from a 10-3 deficit in the second half against a Steelers team that would go on to reach the AFC Championship Game. Muhlmann made field goals of 41, 32, 20, 32 and 34 yards to help the Bengals start 2-0 for the second time in franchise history.
