Tom Archdeacon inducted into Florida Boxing Hall of Fame

Dayton Daily News columnist Tom Archdeacon was inducted into the Florida Boxing Hall of Fame on Sunday night in Tampa.

Before coming to the DDN – where he also covered boxing for years – Archdeacon was a sports columnist and boxing writer with the Miami News in Miami, Florida and the South Dade News Leader in Homestead.

He covered the South Florida fight scene, as well as numerous championship fights across the nation, especially in Las Vegas, Atlantic City and at Madison Square Garden. He chronicled the training, title bouts and lives of legendary fighters like Muhammad Ali, Roberto Duran, Sugar Ray Leonard, Thomas Hearns, Marvin Hagler, Alexis Arguello, Aaron Pryor and Mike Tyson.

In 1989, Archdeacon won the Nat Fleischer Award from the Boxing Writers Association of America, a career achievement award for excellence in boxing journalism.
