He chronicled the training, title bouts and lives of legendary fighters like Muhammad Ali, Roberto Duran, Sugar Ray Leonard, Thomas Hearns, Marvin Hagler, Alexis Arguello, Aaron Pryor and Mike Tyson.
In 1989, Archdeacon won the Nat Fleischer Award from the Boxing Writers Association of America, a career achievement award for excellence in boxing journalism.
