With rivalry week ramping up both north and south of the Ohio-Michigan border, Wolverines past and present seem to be feeling pretty confident.

“I've lost too many years of bets to Ohio State guys, Michigan State guys,” New England Patriots quarterback and proud Michigan alumnus Tom Brady told a Boston radio station Monday. “But this is our year, baby...

“(The Wolverines) have a great chance going to the Horseshoe. I think we're going to kick their butt.”

While Brady has gone on to arguably the greatest career ever for an NFL quarterback, he was only 1-1 in starts against the Buckeyes.

Michigan only has three wins against Ohio State since Brady left school, but one current Wolverine said Monday that number will go to four Saturday.

Running back Karan Higdon guaranteed a victory for Michigan, though not with the level bravado often ascribed to such a boast.

It took a little prodding from a reporter.

“Yeah, I do. That’s how I feel,” Higdon said when asked if he would following in the footsteps of current Michigan coach Jim Harbaugh, who guaranteed (and delivered) a victory over Ohio State in 1986 when he was the quarterback for the Wolverines. “I believe firmly in my brothers and this team and this coaching staff, and as a captain, I’ll take that stand. Why not?”

At least one Buckeye — Michigan native Mike Weber — was not impressed with Higdon’s words.

Both figure to get their chance to let their play do some talking Saturday at Ohio Stadium, but Ohio State coach Urban Meyer said he would not use the Buckeyes’ underdog status for motivation.
