Trio of area athletes win gold at Midwest Meet of Champions

Taylor Robertson, Quincy Scott and Daiton Sharp brought home gold medals from the Midwest Meet of Champions recently in East Lansing, Michigan.

Competing against athletes from Ohio, Michigan and Indiana, Robertson of Wayne High School won the girls long jump with a leap of 17 feet, 7.75 inches. Scott of Springfield and Sharp of Vandalia Butler tied for first in the boys long jump at 22-11.5.

Carroll’s Sam Janson placed second in the boys 400 meters with a time of 48.11 seconds and Alter’s Perri Bockrath was second in the girls 3,200 at 10:38.13.

Other local athletes who placed were Trotwood’s Joshua Byars-Mason with a fourth in the 300 hurdles (38.91) and a seventh in the 110 hurdles (14.48), Versailles’ Joe Spitzer in fourth the 3,200 (9:21.19) and Wayne’s Joel Crain in fifth in the shot put (54-3.75).
