WATCH: New Dayton Flyers coach Anthony Grant interviewed by Don Donoher in 1986

For the first time since Don Donoher took over for Tom Blackburn, the Dayton Flyers have named a former player to run the program. Anthony Grant becomes the 19th head coach in UD history, returning to the place where he was the Most Valuable Player for the Flyers his senior season in 1987.

Grant was a seldom-used freshman on Dayton’s elite eight team in 1984. He played in two NCAA tournaments and one NIT tournament in his four seasons.

ARCHDEACON: Grant a ‘natural fit’ for Flyers

Dayton is Grant’s third stop as a college head coach. He spent three seasons at VCU then six more as head coach at Alabama, compiling a record of 193-110. Grant has spent the last two seasons as an assistant coach for the NBA’s Oklahoma City Thunder.
