Wayne’s Brown, Robertson MVP of Tri-Cities Classic

Zarik Brown and Taylor Robertson of Wayne High School swept MVP honors and led the Warriors to a sweep of the boys and girls team titles in last weekend’s Tri-Cities Track and Field Classic at Science Hill High School in Johnson City, Tennessee.

»RELATED: Wayne’s Warriors Relays that were scheduled for Tuesday, April 3, was postponed to April 16 at Good Samaritan Field Heidkamp Stadium in Huber Heights.

Brown, a junior, won the 200 meters and set a meet record 21.87 in a qualifying heat. He also was second in the 100 (10.82).

Robertson, a senior, won the 100 hurdles (15.02) and triple jump (35 feet, .75 inches). She also was second in the long jump (17-1) and pole vault (11-0).

Other Wayne boys individuals winners were junior Justin Harris in the 110 high hurdles in a meet record (14.41), junior long jump Brian Hill (20-9.25) and senior Joel Crain in the shot put (54-8). Wayne’s boys also won the 4x100 relay (43.13), the 4x400 relay (3:27.46) and the shuttle hurdles (1:06.88).

Wayne junior Kaya Stargel was first in the 300 hurdles (47.07). The Warriors’ girls also won the 4x100 relay (50.13) and 300 shuttle hurdles (1:13.39).

Wayne’s boys compiled 126 points to 81 for runner-up Blacksburg (Va.). Wayne beat runner-up Amherst Steele of Ohio 113-97.50 to win the girls team title.
