“We’re here to handle our business,” declared Wildcats senior sensation Quincy Scott after leading Springfield to a Division I boys district track championship at Piqua on Friday night, its first in 27 years. “It’s like a bond that people don’t understand. We’re all on the same mission. We all came into this meet thinking the same thing.”
Springfield, super charged by Scott and an outstanding supporting cast, out-pointed runner-up Butler 110-92. Troy ran away with the girls championship, 179-92 over second-place Northmont. The top four in each event qualified for next week’s D-I regional at Wayne.

Courtesy of Scott’s four wins, it was the first meet championship for Springfield this season, although it took a disqualification in the final 4x400 relay to prevent the Wildcats from winning the Clark County championships.
“Our goal the whole season was to win the district, regional or state,” Davis said. “I’m really proud of them.”

Scott was spectacular, easily winning the 100 (10.85), 200 (21.81) and anchoring the 4x100 relay (42.53) to another un-pushed win. He won the long jump (22 feet, 11 inches) during Wednesday’s first day of competition.
Springfield added another win by junior Austin Tyree in the 300 hurdles (38.26). He also was fourth in the 110 highs (15.08). Senior Jacob Yost was second to Scott in the 200 (22.73) and third in the 100 (11.37).

Tyree and Yost joined Scott on the 4x100 relay and also were on the runner-up 4x400 relay (3:31.99). Other seconds were earned by junior Isaiah Gibson in the shot put (50-1.75) and junior Mike Brown in the high jump (6-0).
“The last couple years we had the potential and now it’s our time to get it,” said Yost, who signed to play football at Gannon (Pa.). “We’re going to do what we need to.”

• Tecumseh’s girls posted two wins and placed fifth (64.5). Winning for the Arrows was sophomore Kylee Mastin in the 800 (2:17.83) and the 4x400 relay (4:06.85). Sophomore Jaci Rife was second in the 400 (59.50) and fourth in the 200 (26.26).

Other Arrows regional qualifiers were junior Gracie Perkins, fourth in the 800 (2:31.37), and the fourth-place 4x800 relay (10:30.61).

Tecumseh’s boys had three runner-ups: junior Garrett Gemmaka in the 1600 (4:30.04), junior Stephen Mattingly in the 800 (2:02.20) and the 4x800 relay (8:10.24). Also advancing were the fourth-place 4x200 (1:33.11) and 4x400 (3:34.62) relays.
