Fall color will begin to emerge this weekend

Despite the warm start to October, the cool weather and shorter days will continue to trigger color change. The next few weeks with cooler than normal temperatures will help colors to become more vibrant, but another big helper will be sunny afternoons.

If you are planning on heading outside to check out the color change, there will be a lot of dry time this weekend.

Saturday will start with some spotty frost, but this is the best weekend day with full sunshine. It will be cool all afternoon since high temperatures only reach the middle 50s.

Sunday again will be cool in the morning, but there will be some early sun. Clouds increase through the day with slightly warmer temperatures around 60 degrees. If any showers reach the Miami Valley, they will likely push in towards the evening and mainly south.

Bundle up, but enjoy as the colors emerge! You may also notice that trees in neighborhoods have begun to really show color.

ODNR's Tyler Stevenson says that is because the soil is usually drier and packed tighter than the natural floor of our state parks.
