This massive storm, while much weaker than it was when it moved through the Caribbean and Puerto Rico, has been able to hold a ridge of high pressure over the eastern United States, according to StormCenter7 Chief Meteorologist Eric Elwell.

This ridge has allowed temperatures to soar well above normal across the region with temperatures some 10 to 20 degrees above normal.

A cold front that crossed the western half of the country last week has been slowed and even stalled over the Central and Northern Plains since the weekend.

As Maria finally moves off to the east late Tuesday into Wednesday, the cold front will resume course eastward toward the Ohio Valley, bringing with it cooler, more fall-like conditions to the region by the end of the week.
